Back to Part 1 of Make Estate Planning a Priority

Always take responsibility of your properties. A real estate plan is a safety net that makes sure your possessions won’t fall into the wrong hands. Everything you materially own and everything you hold dear in your life should be preserved and be used only as you wish. Through effective and sensible estate planning, you can live in comfort knowing that you are placing everything in its rightful place, your estate, your hopes, your plans and dreams are all conveniently worked out.

If one dies without an estate plan, the state laws where you reside will determine the distribution of your properties and assets. Everything will be given away by default. These laws and policies may vary from state to state, but one thing is for sure, they may not be in parallel with what your family really wanted to do with the property.

Although distribution would be to your spouse and children, or if none, to other family members, they just would not know who gets what. The state where you live in is responsible to submit the legislature's estimate as to how the majority of people would set out their own properties and practically guess the entire procedure of distribution of the properties that you in fact have worked for in achieving over the years. This can lead to the unfortunate distribution of your assets to specific people whom you would not want to gain anything from your death. Most of the time, they do ensure protections for certain beneficiaries, especially minor children. In essence, having a plan will allow you to negate the default state plan to better suit your special preferences.

If you want your real estate to be in good hands, start planning now. Here are some tips to get you started. First, in the planning of your estate, set your goals and priorities. Then, you should consider your family and their needs. You should also get a good idea of the exact scope of your property.
