As you near retirement, there are a number of things you will want to consider. One of the most important is where you will live. Things are constantly changing, and the place you enjoyed living at when you were younger may not be the best place to spend your retirement years. When you are considering where you will live once you retire, it is important for you to do research. While many American citizens choose to move to the Southern United States when they retire, a number of statistics have shown that homes in this region are frequently targeted for robbery.
If you are like many people, it is likely that you want to get away from crowded cities. Perhaps you are concerned with terrorism, or you just need elbow room. You may be surprised to learn that some of the best retirement locations are places that are far away from major cities. No matter where you decide to live, you should check the crime statistics in the area. While you can become a victim of crime no matter where you live, some places have higher crime statistics than others. These are places you will want to avoid. It is best to avoid retiring in cities that have a large population of young males that are unemployed.
While the best places for retirement will continue to change, as of 2005, some of the best cities for retirement in the United States are Athens, Brunswick, Ashland, La Cruces, and Iowa City. Athens is in Georgia, Brunswick is in Maine, La Cruces is in New Mexico, Ashland is in Oregon, and Iowa City is in Iowa. As you can see, non of these cities have large populations of more than 500,000 people. Because of this, they will have reduced amounts of pollution. While California is one of the most beautiful states in the country, it is not one of the best places for those who wish to retire.
