Are Mutual Funds Really Worth It

2006-01-30

Of course the most palpable questions about mutual funds are of course what is the cost and is this worth it. You will have to find out prices and fees to determine what kind of rate of returen you can realize in relation to the risk. A good way to find out about the prices of one of these funds is to check out the expense ratio. This will show you whether your money is being sucked away by other kinds of charges. The big question is how to tell whether this is worth spending your hard-earned money on.

The funds value is dependent on the beating of a benchmark without to much risk. The fact of the matter is that luck has a lot to do with stock anyway, so stay away from a lucky or halfhearted plan. Remember if you here of someone boasting about a fund its just a matter of time before all of the funds hit a high note sometime in its life.

A lot of the managers are scared of the market tinkering at a low measure that they end up duplicating it. They end up owning almost the same amount of stock that have a lot of pull in the index. You can fix this by trying to find out how many funds are duplicating the market rather than trying to get ahead. After all this is done move your money to the fund or part of the fund that is making money. Try to choose a fund that is less broadly diversified. You will see that these tend to not duplicate the market as much.

Also try to find out how closely a fund tracks its benchmark. If that number lingers higher than $0.95 then the fund is probably copying not trying to beat it. You can also try buying a low cost index fund that might prove more lucrative. Of course if you need more advice you can speak to an investment broker to make sure you are making the right decisions concerning your money. Also take into affect that the average cost for a typical U.S. stock fund is roughly 7% so it would be good to check around as much as you can so your hard earned dollar is spent in a way that will benefit you in the future.
